Happy Holidays!

I survived the NYC Blizzard of '09 (It really wasn't that bad, the city just freaks out when there's snow) and now all I have to do is survive my drive home (winter weather advisory for Syracuse- eh, not so fun). But I'm planning on taking my time, and hopefully will make it home safe & sound.

I can't believe tomorrow is Christmas Eve. I'm so used to being on the college schedule when you have a whole month + off. I'm normally home at least half a week before the holidays. Oh well, at least I have a small break before I have to get back to work. And then only a short week before New Years. The end of this year sure is flying. I can't believe I've been at my job for about 5 months now. Wow.

I wish everyone a safe, happy, and healthy holiday season! I'm grateful for so much this season.

Hope you've been nice this year! :P Enjoy.

A snowflake is winter's butterfly.

So I have these ideas swirling around in my head for these website buttons I'm making for a freelance job and more . The new look of the site/branding if you will, has the image of a butterfly tying it all together. Now I've got butterflies on the brain. I often forget how pretty they are!

quote of the day

Found over at the lovely http://kindovermatter.blogspot.com/

Fortune:

"Our greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising every time we fall"

Simply put, this is why I love the blog world. I needed a message just like this today.

Yes to friends tonight

Yes, I am grateful.
For I have a full-time job.
Sometimes I want more.

Nice haiku? Sound silly? In an economy like today's do I sound selfish? I think I have the outta-college-for-six-months-now-and-this-real-world-thing-isn't-out-of-this-world-amazing thoughts rattling around in my brain these days. I like my job, most of the time. I like Syracuse, most of the time. There are those days where I'm like, "I love my life," and others where I'm like, "Is this really my life?" I find those more negative thoughts being thought when my alarm forces me to roll out of my comfy warm bed early Monday mornings in particular.

I think college spoils us. It allows us to "work" on what we love doing/hope to pursue, while also sleeping in till noon, and having more social opportunities than one knows what to do with.

I'm catching myself being bitter (again), and I know I need to turn this frown upside-down. But how? Maybe I'm just expecting myself/putting too much pressure on myself to adjust much quicker to this 8-5, M-F thing than a person realistically will. I never have had enough patience.

Yes to friends tonight.
Be grateful for what you have.
Smile and be happy.

Thankful

I am thankful for a great long weekend home with family. It was hard to leave!

This holiday was extra special because family (aunt, two cousins) were able to make it to New York from Colorado. I enjoyed sleeping in, eating well, and just being entertained by family. I always enjoy having lots of people around, and sometimes miss that back in Syracuse.

I'm looking forward to December and trying to get myself pumped up for the holiday season. I'm looking forward to trying to plan more social things to do before the new year, hopefully figuring out some fun New Years plans, and settling into my new routine at my new place.

I've been trying to live by the, "Do what makes you happy," mantra lately. With the emphasis on Do, not just think about doing. Forget people who judge, people who are negative - I want to be happy.

Blogging Family

..."sitting with anxiety and uncertainty...but believing that I am right where I am supposed to be"...

I love reading other blogs. They make me happy. I always seem to find bloggers that are feeling similar feelings to me, or positive posts that lift my mood. :)

Fall!

I am not a fan of daylight savings time. It completely messes up my day. I like light when I come out of work thankyouverymuch.

However, I really do like fall. I love love love the colors. Check out this site for some amazing photos of fall foliage.

Project to do

http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=33415817
I might try and do something like this in my new house. I'm not sure if I would try and take my own pictures, make them on the computer, or do something entirely different.

Being Happy...

Originally from Uma Questao De Postura; found on http://shannoneileenblog.typepad.com/

Monday Monday

So the weekend started off well. I had a good Friday at work-- laughter over some photoshop work to say good bye to a co-worker who is moving back to Denmark. Friday and Saturday-- even into Sunday afternoon-- was good. I began to move into my new house. My stuff is there even though I can't be yet because the flooring isn't done. I'm actually getting more and more excited to move in, perhaps because...

Sunday night I had a breakdown. It was one of those comes-outta-nowhere geeking out kinda moments. I just didn't feel like myself, I felt stressed for no reason, and I felt unsettled. I truly enjoyed spending Sunday afternoon outside with my boyfriend and one of his roommates. It was a lot of fun. But right around dinner time I started to feel differently. Maybe it was the anticipation of another week of work? The sadness that the weekend was over? But, let's be serious, I have to get used to this. This is what most people do, they work all day.

If I could take a moment to go off on a tangent, I would like to say this is stupid. I dislike the work 8-5, 9-4, or more. I feel as though this wastes peoples lives away. Maybe it doesnt feel like this for people who love their jobs? I really am enjoying mine, as I have just begun a few months ago, but I don't enjoy spending all day in a cubicle. The days just seem to fly by with work-dinner-prep. for the next day-sleep-repeat.

But I thought I was going to complain less! Grrrr, it's a struggle. I feel like, hope that, it'll get better once I'm settled into my new place. I can develop a more permanent routine, or at least have my own space to escape to. I'm also interested in exploring my more "artsy-crafty" side. The side that was always pushed aside (thought down upon) while in design school. Just to give myself some happiness, even if it is just fooling around with things.

That's it for now. Back to work!

Here's to Friday!

Here's to Friday.
Here's to being more optimistic.
Here's to complaining less.
Here's to enjoying life in the present.
Here's to beating a stubborn cold.
Here's to change.
Here's to the weekend!

Sorry I've been missing

I've been busy/distracted lately, and then I had a busy weekend at home, so I haven't gotten around to blogging. Today, I think I'm coming down with a cold, but I hope to defeat it before it gets worse.

This weekend I'm moving into my new house. I'm both excited and anxious. I hope it goes smoothly-- it's going to take some getting used to. I'm trying to think positively and remember that change is neccessary; going to happen whether I like it or not. I just feel so comfortable with where I am now that I hate to leave. But I'm looking forward to finally unpacking my stuff and getting my own space. Hopefully I can find a happy balance.

Color of the Day- not a Pantone color, just eggplant. I was going to choose a greenish-yellow to represent feeling sick/a bit anxious, but then I remembered the scarf my grandmother is knitting for me. When deciding what color I wanted it to be (she asked what I wanted) I decided on a purple, but wanted to make sure it was a darker more luxurious purple. I described the color I wanted as "Eggplant." Funny thing is my grandmother actually found a yarn called eggplant, and that is now what I am getting. Looking forward to it!

L'art pour l'art

http://www.flickr.com/photos/drewbaker/2401672512/
You've got to click on the link and see what went into this work. I had no idea! Makes it even more impressive though for sure. First seen on: http://kindovermatter.blogspot.com/

Busy bee!

Life, work, and then the weekend got the best of me and I forgot to blog! But here's a few things for you to enjoy today:

Color of the Day: Pantone 116

I chose this color for a few reasons. One, I'm looking forward to going home this weekend to see family. I haven't seen the majority of them since the end of July, which seems like forever! Although I'm not looking forward to the drive after work (2.5 hours), I know I have it easy compared to many so I shouldn't complain. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone, just hanging out with the family (no worries, no homework anymore on the weekends (yay!)), good food, and fun.

Also, this evening we are going out to dinner for my boyfriend's birthday. And he'll finallly open the present I got for him! So I wanted to choose a warm yellow to represent all of this goodness.

Friday Color of the Day

Today's color of the day is Pantone 1505U. I'm in a good mood because I'm looking forward to the weekend. Also there's SU versus West Virginia this weekend (go cuse)! TGIF!

Color of the Day

Today's color is Pantone 232U! I chose this color because I was looking for something bright and optimistic, and this one caught my eye. I'm getting really excited for this coming weekend, as I have a bunch of fun things planned with friends. And then the following weekend I'm heading home to see family, which also should be a lot of fun. I love having things to look forward to. Plus, I have some surprises up my sleeve...

Yumm Coffee

Maybe today's color should have been a tint of brown, like a caramel color? I saw this image at http://www.matissecolor.blogspot.com/ and it made me smile. Very cool!

Color of the Day

Day 3: And the "color" is.....white!

I went to the Dentist this morning so that may be where this is coming from. I'm also having a "I-don't-quite-know-how-I'm-feeling" kind of day so this fits.

Make your own bow

I think I'm going to try and do this craft this holiday season. It looks easy enough! We shall see....

Thanks to Jessica at How About Orange for this great idea!

Day 2 Color

Today's color is:
Pantone 5295U

This color looks much more drab in my formula guide. I'm having a blah day. I'm uncomfortably chilled, moody, and just generally not 'feeling' today. I hate when things don't work out the way you've planned. I've got to try and get out of this funk though, 'cause no one's going to want to be around me!

A Color A Day

So I don't know if this idea that just came to me is going to work, but I'm going to try and give it a go. I want to pick a color a day for a month and, in the end, do something creative with the approx. 30 swatches I have accumulated. Each day I will pick a color I feel represents that day for me and post it up here. If I end up doing something tangible with the colors I'll print the swatches out and do my best to color match to whatever material I choose to use. The color may be pulled from my mood, thoughts, weather, anything. For some reason I'm thinking this could become an interesting blanket, but that could just be because I have such a chill right now....

Day 1: Monday, October 5th

Pantone 628C
Chosen Because? Possibly the chill I have. I wanted to find something that felt a bit chilly to me, without being gray, dreary, and depressing.

Inspired Magic

....Inspired by the last post.

Magic

As simple as this print seems, I really like it! I feel as though it's reminding me to stay true to myself, and not be afraid to be crazy. :)*
I'm soooo excited for this weekend. It's Homecoming Weekend at the University, so a bunch of my friends are coming back to the city. It should be tons of fun! I'm impatiently waiting for the work day to be over so I can get home. Have a great weekend!

Good Anxiety

I'm copying this over directly from the blog Pink Coyote written by Pixie Campbell. She wrote this at the end of her post entitled "Good Anxiety." I thought these brief words were pretty deep, and definitely something to remind ourselves each day:

Each day brings more perfectly good reasons to find the courage to say "Yes, I accept the challenge, no matter the wrench it my gut that it's giving me!", in order to grow and stretch towards life. Anxiety holds the potential for growth, scary and giddy as it is.

"Courage is not the absence of fear. It is the perception that some things are more important to us than what we fear."
--James Hollis

Disposable?

As seen on blog How About Orange, these are Cheeming Boey's sharpie drawings on foam cups. When asked by Jessica Jones (How About Orange) if he had anything to say about his cups. He replied, "I would like to show people that canvases can be anything... just because it says disposable doesn't mean it has to be."

Dip-n-Go

I don't know why the image is coming up blue, but this is a really interesting packaging idea done by PWP that I found on the web today. It's called the Dip-n-Go and basically flips the lid of the container over to form a shelf for the dip to sit on. The lid snaps onto the base however, so it can be carried with one hand.
