Doing my best

So my goal to write more on the blog obviously hasn't happened, but I've decided to put less pressure on myself about writing here, and instead sort of just roll with the ebb and flow of life and write when I can. I don't want to feel guilty about not checking in here. It is the last day of March as I write. March was an insane month that flew by. Actually my life has been quite busy since the beginning of February. Work travel, personal travel, friends and family coming to visit, etc. I literally have not had a free weekend since the beginning of February. I'm very much looking forward to the upcoming one. As the turbulent twenties tend to go, and as I've written about before, change is always in the air. Each week, or even each day, seems to bring change- things to be excited about and things to be not so excited about. I'm trying my best to stick to my New Year's resolution and try to be more flexible. To try and go with the flow more and not get caught up in the little things. Other than maybe a few hiccups I think I'm doing a good job with it. This weekend I'm going to try and write a post about innovative products that combine needs. Come and check back in!

Falling into February

Another new year’s resolution? To blog more. I always think of things to blog about, but rarely ever do it. I also want to make sure talk about different aspects of my life in more balance. Maybe more design and less venting? Haha, we’ll see how it goes…

Here are a few things on my mind that I’m going to note briefly. Perhaps lengthier blog posts about each one in the future:

Corner frames- Whatt?! Did not know these existed, and feel as though they could be made much more cheaply. Corners are always so bare though- I like this idea.

Marriage- I feel like marriage-related topics came up a lot this week. I think the mid-twenties do that to you. I find it both incredibly exciting and stressful to think about. Mostly exciting though.

Royal wedding? --> Lifetime movie http://www.vanityfair.com/online/daily/2011/01/royal-wedding-watch-will-prince-william-marry-in-uniform.html

Future- If you knew where the ride was going to take you, it wouldn’t nearly be as fun. Period. (In all reality I want to continue on about how the future is scary and how change makes me nervous and how all my friends should live closer…but let’s be brave and strong this time around)

Birthday- My quarter of a century celebration is coming up next week! Eek! I want to just have fun and enjoy the company that surrounds me. I’m not planning anything huge, and I think I like it that way. Plans include trying new restaurants and maybe heading to the casino. Perfect.

Until next time, and hopefully more frequently.

2011 Resolutions

Sigh. A new year. A fresh slate. I'm nervous, excited, and anxious to begin a new year.

First day of work back, and my alarm didn't go off this morning. Not a great start. But I'm hoping it only gets better from here on out.

2011 Resolutions

1. Be more active & healthy-
A. At least 2 more races (5k +)
B. Workout more- get into at least 3x/week schedule
C. Healthier eating- keep up with vegan/veg. options & less alcohol

2. Less expectations when it comes to planning
A. live in the moment, less worry about how others are living their lives

3. More enjoyable work environment

4.Live more freely & boldly
A. Be spontaneous
B. Don't let the little things affect you
C. DO what YOU want to do, DO what makes YOU happy

5. Side creative hobby?

I find my resolutions often repeat year-to-year, but I don't think I take any issue with this. I'm figuring as long as there was progress & growth, it was a successful year. Plus, I figure it's always smart to set the bar high in the beginning of the year, and to see where you land as you progress through it.

All the best to you in 2011!

Long Time, No See

Huge gap in posting here. Almost exactly 2 months. I apologize to anyone that actually checks in regularly.

Life has been busy, but in a good way. Even though I have all but one Christmas present bought and wrapped, for some reason I still don't feel like it's the holiday season yet. I don't know why. I'm thinking when I get back to my parent's house for the holiday, this might change.

Overall, December has been a good month. Lots of nice change. Making new friendships. Feeling more and more comfortable in my own skin and with my own choices. Valuing my alone time more, but loving my time with friends & loved ones. Life is good.

In the holiday spirit of '12 days of Christmas', I've decided to post a list of 12 blogs/sites I follow regularly. You should check them all out!

Finding Equilibrium

This is a topic/thought I find quite interesting, as I feel that both sides aren't always discussed.

Background: I was sitting in yoga class a few weeks back, when the instructor began a discussion on finding your center and what that truly means. She went on to explain that a true or accomplished yogi (essentially one who does yoga) is able to control their emotions in a way that they never hit extremes, or can stay at equilibrium.

The interesting part of this discussion was that 'extremes' means both the highs and the lows. Obviously, when I think about keeping my emotions/reactions in check, I think of the negatives- don't get too upset, angry, sad, etc. But this also goes for the positives. Yogis don't get overly excited or happy either- key word being overly. Yes, you can still be happy. But the theory behind this is that you're life will never be a constant of extreme happiness or extreme sadness, so somewhere in the middle (center) is the best place to keep yourself.

I'm trying to work on this within myself. Admittedly, I've failed quite miserably a few times since the yoga class that brought this to my attention. As a person who wears her emotions on her sleeve, I definitely ride the extremes quite often. However I think this is a great personal challenge.

I challenge you to try it too- to be more aware of the emotional extremes you let yourself get to. For example, no one feels good after they've freaked out over something that was unimportant, or got so excited about something that they felt withdrawal after it was over.

Good luck! Namaste.
